ST. MARYS, GA— A quiet evening in St. Marys turned deadly on November 16, 2024, when gunfire erupted at the Cumberland Oaks Apartment complex on Mary Powell Drive.
At 9:17 p.m., police were called to the scene where they found Lancine Bakary Soumahoro, 21, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Soumahoro was rushed to the Southeast Georgia Health System – Camden Campus but succumbed to his injuries.
A second victim, Domonja R. Mitchell, 17, sustained a gunshot wound to his arm. Initially taken to the same local hospital by a family member, Mitchell was later airlifted to UF Shands in Jacksonville. His injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
As the community mourns the loss of Soumahoro, his family has started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and honor his memory. Those wishing to support the family can contribute through Support for Lancine’s Final Journey.
The St. Marys Police Department credited the Kingsland Police Department, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for their swift support.
