The family of a Georgia man shot by a deputy is suing the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.

A Georgia family is suing the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and one of its deputies after Leonard Cure was killed during a traffic stop last October.

Cure had already served 16 years in a Florida jail when fresh evidence revealed he did not commit the murder.

On Tuesday, his mother addressed a press conference.

“He took my son’s life, and someone has to pay for that,” Mary Cure said.

Cure, 53, served 16 years in jail for robbery before being vindicated and exonerated in 2020.

According to the GBI, Cure first cooperated with deputy Buck Aldridge during the traffic check, then attacked him when he realized he was likely to be jailed.

Aldridge tased Cure before shooting him.

Mary described it as a dreadful day when civilians must police the police.

“They should take their job seriously, and when they want to use access force, you have other parts of the body you can shoot,” Mary stated.

‘I want to know somehow this guy who killed my son is not working. I’ve always been slightly suspicious of this, he shouldn’t be working anywhere, Mary said.

We also heard from Cure’s brother, Michael, who said he wants justice for his brother.

“My brother deserved more than what he received in Camden County.”
