With the football season inching closer, fresh faces in the NFL are beginning to showcase their potential with their respective teams. Among the talented rookies making an early impact are Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Carter and Smith were both first-round selections by the Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, following their successful collegiate careers as teammates with the Georgia Bulldogs. Together, they contributed to the Bulldogs’ remarkable achievements, including three consecutive New Year’s Six Bowl victories, an SEC Championship, and back-to-back national championships. Notably, they played pivotal roles in the Bulldogs’ celebrated 2021 defense.
Beyond the accolades and trophies they earned, Carter and Smith have brought their exceptional work ethic from their time at Georgia to the Eagles. Their dedication and drive have already caught the attention of their fellow teammate and experienced defensive lineman, Josh Sweat.
Sweat, who has been a member of the Eagles since 2018, expressed his admiration for the rookies’ commitment to hard work and learning, despite their youthfulness.
“They’re great. The work ethic is crazy for both of ’em. They’re professionals, man… They’re here to learn and are improving quickly. They’ve been on championship teams already; they are about their business,” commented Sweat on Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter.
Receiving such praise from a teammate of Sweat’s caliber holds significant meaning. In the Eagles’ 2022 season, Sweat made impressive contributions with 48 total tackles and 11 sacks, helping propel the team to a Super Bowl appearance in LVII. Now, Carter and Smith aim to contribute to the Eagles’ continued success, building upon the achievements of the previous season.
